A downtown urban infill project. This addition to
17 Prince Street has an important presence on Alderney
Drive just north of Admiralty Place and across the street
from the old Dartmouth City Hall.
The urban scene is enhanced by the building which replaces
a gap in the urban fabric. Prior to construction of this
building Alderney Drive was “graced “with the rear
basement entrance of a building fronting on Prince Street.
Compatibility with the surrounding neighbourhood. The
building unites the apartments to the north with Admiralty
Place to the south utilizing common materials, colours,
proportions, and horizontal design elements. The infill
project unifies the streetscape while still maintaining an
individual character.
Enhances the notion of a liveable city. At only three
stories the scale is very livable. The brick exterior harkens
back to the heritage of old Dartmouth. The people friendly
arcade welcomes, encourages and shelters pedestrians.
Safety, security and liveable design. The street level
arcade provides a secure, weather protected pedestrian
route as well as a very liveable ambience. The ground floor
is at grade and fully accessible.
